BURIED LETTER PRESS

The supreme question about a work of art is, out of how deep a vision of life does it spring?

-James Joyce

First conceived of in 2006, Buried Letter Press takes its name from a trunk of old  letters, photos, and postcards  found in a friend’s basement. Once discovered, the letters in the trunk illuminated the rich lives of those who lived through them. Letters get buried in all sorts of ways for all sorts of reasons. Buried Letter Press is a celebration of those who live through the letter as well as a consciousness  hellbent on digging up those stashes wherever they may be stowed. More appropriately, Buried Letter Press is a publication celebrating and promoting art in all its odd/brilliant extensions, a place to get rowdy,  to encourage deep, rich lives, and to engage in tomfoolery of all sorts.

PHILOSOPHY/ MISSION:

Art is opportunity and artist must be present/ be present, embrace opportunity.

Our mission is  to provide commentary, deliver the news, and shake things up. It’s not a publication for creative work, but a creative publication about the work.

John Paul Sartre once said, “with each of our acts, the world reveals to us a new face.”  At Buried Letter Press, we believe artists interact with the world through art and that artistic actions have the potential to produce limitless possibilities and impact real and meaningful changes.
